Central Michigan/Midland flood 2020. Damage and aftermath of the Edenville Dam and Sanford Dam failures that drained Wixom Lake and Sanford Lake. When I started filming this video I set out to simply capture some footage of a news event happening in my area. I thought I would post it to the internet for posterity's sake and leave it at that. Never did I think going to check out some local flooding would turn into the discovery of corrupt and unchecked capitalism that resulted in hundreds of families being displaced through no fault of their own. This flood was not a natural disaster, but the result of unsustainable business and environmental practices. Malpractice runs rampant in this system that only works to sustain the rich. What the future holds for the people whose homes and business have been destroyed and whether any reparations will be paid is still unknown. I joined the club and gave myself a quarantine haircut. I have never cut my own hair before but the urge to take a pair of dull craft scissors to my long locks proved too strong to resist. We continued our road trip along the Moroccan coast by traveling through the seaside villages of Asilah and Oualidia. In Asilah we witnessed it's amazing ancient architecture, saw first hand the region's musical heritage, and finally learned about those famous Moroccan rugs! In Oualidia it was beach, beach, beach. We flew into Tangier and embarked on a little road trip, spending the day driving through the Moroccan countryside and finally making it to Chefchaouen (The Blue City). This day was all the way back on October 5th, 2018! With me in this hodge-podge group is Rabe, Hillary, and Abe (long story as to how we came to go on a trip together). As you can see, as a baby traveler I was pretty mind-blown. I was quite simply overwhelmed by the fact that my wildest dream of seeing foreign places had come true in an instant- with the purchase of a single plane ticket I was half across the globe and a world away from home. We make out travel to be so impossible, and while the journey to that moment wasn't short or easy, it was simple. Much simpler than I had been pressured into believing by preconceptions, family, friends, and even vocal strangers. Girl saves money. Girl buys ticket. Girl meets world. Simple. Possible.
